Using methods of theoretical physics, we explore transport phenomena in solids. In particular, we are interesed in quasi-two-dimensional systems (such as interfaces and surfaces), topological materials, and systems with unconventional symmetry properties (e.g., chiral systems).
One focus of our research is describing charge, spin, and orbital transport phenomena. We explore effects that connect electric and magnetic properties of solids: How can electron spin be transported efficiently? How can magnetization be generated purely electrically? In which materials can light induce a charge current? What is the role of the orbital angular momentum in solids?
We combine analytical and numerical methods, effective models, and (non-)linear transport theories in order to gain a fundamental understanding of microscopic processes in solids.
