Post-translational protein modifications

NMR spectroscopy allows both localisation of post-translationally modified amino acids and differences in the structure and interactions of the modified protein. In this context, we could elucidate the regulation of CDK inhibitor p19INK4d during cell cycle control by phosphorylation (see figure).

Protein modifications occur also during aging of proteins often related to diseases such as cataract. Here, we investigate the influence of UV irradiation and glycation of proteins from the human eye lens.
